Im currently on a 512 connection with Wanadoo/Orange and was thinking about upgrading, My local exchange is MRFAI which according to the Samknows site is LLU enabled, the BT broadband checker shows that my line is capable of 2mbps regular adsl and up to 8mbps on adsl max.
Until i pointed out the results of the BT checker to wanadoo, i was told i could only recieve 2meg, the last time i contacted them they checked the sam knows site and told me i can receive up to 8 meg.
However after finding this site i'm a little hesitant, and i'm unsure what to do as regards upgrading or jumping ship.
I was on 2meg ok, exchange updated to LLU in Feb, offered and accepted 8meg, then had no end of problems for 4 months with unstable connections.
Connection now stable, only problem they put me down to 1/2 meg to attain a stable connection!!!!
I would be wary of upgrading at the moment, if you have a stable 1/2 meg and don't play online games, need to download large files etc , don't fix what aint broke!
Don't get me wrong I would love to be back to 2meg or higher, problem being no one at Orange can say when, or if, or ever, I can get back to 2meg.
It appears LLU has come unstuck, not only with Orange.
See posts on Orange reverting to wholesale BT max to address the problem.
It appears that they will have to do this in a large no. of exchanges to be able to supply customers with the connection speeds their equipment is unable to supply.
Word has it that BT are laughing uptheir sleaves at the LLU debacle!
When all said and done it is the same data sent to my computer down my phone line. If provider (a) can provide the speed, why can not provider (b) provide the same speed over the same line?
As far as I'm aware Orange aren't reverting to BT max, thats just a way of providing the faster speeds people are craving in areas where LLU isn't available.
Although BT seem to have handled Max a lot more smoothly, they do have the resources and expertise after all, I've heard very similar tales to the LLU problems on here over Max.
I aggree BT have the resources and expertise for their systems.
Surely then a company as big as Wanadoo/Orange should have ensured that they had the resources and expertise in place with a sound and stable infrastructure, complemented with an efficient and educated/trained staff both in customer services and exchange/equipment/system engineers etc.
They can not be excused by being new players in the game, both companies have a long combined history in telecoms, Internet service and the vagaries of computer systems hardware and software.
They should have foreseen the possibility of problems with a new system and should have had robust processes in place to address faults, with the new system, in days or at most weeks and not months as is happening to many.
Most of all they should have been honest in their answers to customers.
