When i signed up to my new Orange contract (and hence got the free broadband package included) i phoned up to arrange my broadband and they told me they would be sending me a livebox
They said nothing about it being sent out on a "rental agreement" whereby i have to return the livebox to them when i leave Orange broadband
Anyway, when i received the livebox they said i need to sign 3 copies of the agreement and return 2 to them, which i havent done
Has anyone else not returned their agreement forms? Just want to make sure they wont disconnect me or anything!
I received a rental agreement in the same package as the livebox, but I haven't returned the agreement forms. This was mainly because as I'd already been using a wireless router for about a year I had no need for one, plus it only had 2 wired ports and I'm currently using 3 on my router. I wasn't too happy about some of the terms in the agreement either, but I won't go in to that now.
When I tried to call them initally to ask if I could return the box as it wouldn't be used, they said I'd have to pay to return it. After numerous emails and another letter to me asking me to return the agreement, I phoned again. This time they said they'd send out a parcel so that I could return the livebox. This was a couple of weeks ago, the parcel finally arrived today!
A letter enclosed with the parcel says that if I don't return it within 28 days, I'll be charged £100 for the box. There's no way that the livebox is worth £100!!!

By itself it's not but there's associated costs of the postage, reconditioning if needed, checking everythings there, etc, etc.
Back when they used to be sold it was for £80 and that wasn't too bad at the time.
After Three emails and two letters I have now received a fresh set of forms to sign!! One of the emails actually told me to forget about signing the forms!!!
I've sent the agreement back again and hope that this ends the saga.

Whilst at the moment I seem to have most of my issues with Orange sorted (at least for the moment) I feel compelled to comment.
I was offered the free livebox upgrade (from speedtouch) at the standard £17.99 unlimited bribe. No mention at the time of the offer, or in the subsequent email that the livebox was on loan.
No contract with the livebox.
UK law would, therefore, construe that no agreement exists in connection with the hardware provided (and since I'm out of contract on the service as well, the agreement there is limited to standard T&Cs). That being the case, my free upgrade can quite legitimately be taken by me as them having provided me, unconditionally, with the livebox.
Unconditionally means it's mine for as long as I want it, regardless of whether or not I move to a different provider at some point in the future.
They'll still want it back if you did migrate and you're unlikely to get very far without resorting to lawyers. Anyway why would you want the livebox? It's locked to Orange and unlocking it, from what I've read, looks to be much more hastle than just buying a cheap new router.
